About this property

Set on a tree-lined block in Parkview, this 1920s bungalow is close to Bayou St. John, City Park, the Carrollton streetcar line, and the shops and restaurants along Esplanade Avenue and N. Carrollton. The gabled entry, with its arched door surround and bracketed eaves, introduces the period character found throughout the home. Inside, original casement windows bring in natural light from several sides, and 9-foot ceilings, heart pine floors and classic trim carry from room to room. The front living room centers on a working ventless gas fireplace set in brick with inset decorative tiles, and it opens to a dining room lined with windows. The kitchen is generous and well equipped, with a 36-inch Wolf gas range, a stainless vent hood and pot filler, soapstone counters with a custom soapstone sink, custom painted shaker-style maple cabinetry with glass-front uppers, and stainless steel appliances. At the rear, a den opens through French doors to the deck. The bedroom has a large cedar-lined closet. The bathroom keeps its original tilework and adds a Kohler pedestal sink and a combination tub and shower. A separate laundry room has its own exterior door. The home's systems have been updated. They include a 5-year-old HVAC system with new ductwork and a gas heater, updated electrical, a 5-year-old architectural shingle roof on the main house, and a 5-year-old metal roof on the detached shed. Out back, a large covered deck overlooks the lawn and gardens. A concrete patio area and a tall privacy fence complete the yard. A driveway runs the length of the property to the rear yard and has room for multiple vehicles.
